Uh! Look What I Found!
Oh, looks like our two-headed doggo friend is interested!
First off...
Happy Halloween!
I hope you're having a good Saturday getting candy and stuffing it into your maw. You, me, and all of us, have certainly deserved it for lasting this long in self-quarantine and a global pandemic with no end in sight (at least for those of us in the US).
But if you're in the United States, after Halloween... comes Election Day.
VOTE VOTE VOTE!
No, it's not a holiday. But, it should a day off so people can fulfill this civic duty.
Election Day is important.
If you're not planning to vote, well, I'm urging you to go and vote.
Early voting is pretty much over, so if you weren't one of the 60 million or so folks who did vote early, well, it's time to hit up your local polling station and have your say. Yeah, I know, long lines, COVID-19, protests, cold weather, angry people... you'll have to deal with it.
I've got nothing for ya.
No telling you that you'll be some brave soul doing a small but heroic thing. You're just going to a place to fill in a bunch of circles while trying to stay 6-feet away from everyone else while angry people scream at you. But hey...
Your vote's important.
It's why people are throwing billions of dollars to get your vote. That's why there's people who will be outside that polling station to intimidate you into giving up your vote. That's why there's people higher up the government food chain who're trying to keep you from voting altogether.
But in America, we have an age old saying, "Don't tread on me."
That goes for other Americans not treading on Americans.
So don't let them take away your vote, and your right to vote.
If you're gonna do your civic duty, wear a mask, stay in line to the bitter end, and have your say at the voting booth, especially if you're unhappy about how things are and you feel helpless in the face of all this.
And hey, it's the least you can do. Right? There's phone banking, canvasing, and other volunteering. I'm not about that. Maybe you're not either. If you are, you're way better than me and thank you for your service. At the very least though, if you're like me, vote. If not for you, then for folks around you that you care about, because what we choose affects all of our lives either now or in the future. I've come to see voting as a form of empathy. We live in a country where we focus on individual merit a lot, and cynically that gets translated into "well, I got mine." But voting isn't only about you. It's about your family, your friends, your community, and anyone you might care for inbetween. So vote to help them. And also, get 'em to vote too.
You know, my mom, who immigrated here in the 70s, voted for the first time this year. She was always "no politics." Well, it's a little hard to say that when politics intrudes your live every moment of every day, so it got her to vote (by mail).
So that's my spiel.
New Art
I have some new Halloween art that I posted today along with this new comic. Check it out, and click on it to visit the art page. I drew this a year ago, but since it was after Halloween 2019, I didn't bother finishing it till this week. Lazy, I know.
Anyhow, have a safe and socially distant Halloween. Get a lot of candy. Cast your vote. And otherwise enjoy your Saturday!
